Camp Katrina is a large operation. There are five large tents including, a Kitchen tent, a Dining tent, a store (distribution) tent, a warehouse tent, and the volunteers housing tent. They feed up to 5,000 meals each day and run the distribution store. On Monday when we left the number of volunteers was up to 100, people from all around the country. ... One lady said she came in a couple times to get supplies but then came back several times to feel the love there. One young woman came in and asked for clothes for her baby. She had given birth two days before Katrina, came home from the hospital and immediately had to evacuate. She lost all the clothes and supplies for the baby. She had one T-shirt that she had to washout all the time and the baby had reflux so he threw-up a lot. Plus, the water supply, while working in some areas, was not being treated so was not safe. We did not have any baby clothes packaged. (We were not allowed to give out clothes unless packaged.) Phyllis hunted in our warehouse until she found a diaper bag that came with baby clothing in it. ...
