Lots to Report

Judah's bottom line, after a weekend upstate: I should stop being half a pastor and become a full pastor. Once again I'm not sure how our meandering conversation ended up there, but there we found ourselves during the drive home yesterday, with Judah dispensing words of wisdom. Apparently I should become a full pastor (as opposed to half pastor/half lawyer) because pastors are "cool" because "they preach" and "tell people about Jesus." Of course, there are other ways to tell people about Jesus, like "telling your friends" or "showing people God's love by doing nice things for them." But nothing is quite so "cool" as preaching. Other highlights from our weekend upstate: - The (first) Pilgrimage. The weather was miserable, so we improvised on Sunday and took the 50 minute drive to Cooperstown for a pilgrimage to the venerable Baseball Hall of Fame. Judah was impressed by all the interlocking NYs, so much so that when he saw a boy with a Boston jersey he turned to me and rightly proclaimed: "The Red Sox stink!" (This represents a victory over his year-long flirtation with Red Sox fandom.) - Hanging out with our friends from YW8. Unbeknownst to me, the youth ministry at Abounding Grace that I pastored for 10 years, YW8? (Why Wait?), changed the weekend of its fall retreat from November to October, and we ended up at the Red Barn at the same time. What fun! Judah was the unofficial youth group mascot for 3 years, so he got to see old friends and was treated like royalty. - Rib Eye. Chili powder, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, broiler for 6-7 minutes on each side. Combine with sauted mushrooms and nachos with home-made guacomole. Perfection. - Cuddling Judah under the covers as Yankees won game 4. Priceless. (I know, I know ... more on that later.)
