Techie help needed - streaming audio

I have a 37 minute audio track from my message at this weekend's Youth Explosion conference that I compressed to an MP3 file, but it's still too large to post (appx. 40mb). How can I compress it further? UYWI has a 35 minute MP3 of me preaching online that's less than 5mb.

you need to reduce the sample rate. most people set it at set it at 44.1kHZ, or 48kHz. but you can set it as low as 22k for a voice-only track.

you also need to drop the bit rate. most people encode at 128kbps+ for music, but for a single voice track you can go down to 32kbps (especially for streaming).

also if you encode it as mono, that will half the file size. if you are on a mac, you can do this with itunes (go to preferences>importing and chose the podcast setting) and I think quicktime pro will also let you do this. if you are on a pc, get a mac.

hope that helps.

Did you get the file downsized?

If not, let me know and I'll help you out.
