In the Dashboard you should be able to remove comments or even turn them off. When you first sign in, where the list of your blogs exists (yours is probably only one), hit the Settings tab and go to comments. You can choose to only allow comments by people who are "Registered Users."
Also, under that Comments section, you can require user authorization, you know, "what word is in this box," sort of thing.
On the blog itself, you should have a little trash can under each comment. Hit that trash can to delete that comment. You should see that when you hit the "View Blog" tab in Dashboard (Bloggers Control page).

Bob, thanks for the tips. Fyi, before they worked for me, I had to temporarily disable my firewall so that the trash icon would appear. I learned that here: http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=1081.
